Bill Benson and Bert Jablon

Running enthusiasts are invited to Plainview this month to get some insights from two veterans of the Long Island Running Club.

The featured speakers at the Tuesday, Sept. 15 open general meeting of the Greater Long Island Running Club will be 96-year-old Bill Benson and 88-year-old Bert Jablon.

The meeting will be held in the auditorium of the Plainview-Old Bethpage Public Library, 999 Old Country Rd. in Plainview, starting promptly at 8 p.m. There is no admission and the general public is very cordially invited to attend.

Both Benson and Jablon are still running on a regular basis and still competing in road races. Most recently, both of them successfully completed the July 19 Heart & Sole 5 Kilometer Run in Plainview and the Aug. 9 Lynn, Gartner, Dunne & Covello Sands Point Sprint 5 Kilometer Run in the Sands Point Preserve.

The well-respected runners will be telling lots of “war stories” relating to their decades of running, and will try to give the audience some insights as to their longevity and, more to the point, as to how they have managed to stay active and involved in the running scene for as long as they have.
