Asian-American supermarket chain Hmart opened its latest incarnation in Jericho recently, taking over the spot vacated by the former Waldbaum’s at 336 N. Broadway.

“As the community waits for Hmart Jericho to open, Hmart will work hard each and every day to serve customers and go above and beyond any expectations,” according to a statement by Hmart Jericho store manager Ena Singh.

The chain, which serves traditional American and international food including produce, meat, poultry and seafood, first laid its roots in Woodside, Queens, in 1982. The store has since expanded to 54 stores in 11 states, including locations in Great Neck and Williston Park.
A store spokesperson said the company added “90-100 jobs to the local economy” while also hiring “quite a few previous A&P employees.” Wadlbaum’s shuttered last year after its parent company A&P filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection and reorganization.
